UCI 2022Road World Championships

From 18-25 September this year, Wollongong will host the UCI Road World Championships. This will be a road cycling event, and an Olympic-scale celebration for the city. This elite racing event is expected to attract the largest volume of people every to gather within Wollongong CBD and surrounding suburbs.

What does this mean for  Collegians? 

With 30,000 spectators, with up to 10,000 international visitors over 8 days of elite racing there will be road closures throughout the Wollongong CBD area and surrounds.

During this period of time Members & Guests will continue to be able to enjoy all the Collegians facilities as normal. We recommend & advise members & guests to allow extra travel time when travelling to the Wollongong CBD area.

ROAD CLOSURES COLLEGIANS BALGOWNIE

Although there is no direct impact to access Collegians Balgownie, those travelling from the South may be required to adjust their normal route. Due to road closures throughout the Fairy Meadow area, the majority of the major streets will be closed, such as Princes Hwy, Cabbage Tree Lane & Elliotts Rd.

It is advised to travel to Balgownie via Memorial Drive to Towradgi Rd, exit heading straight up Towradgi Rd, left on Meadow St and right onto Balgownie Rd.

ROAD CLOSURES COLLEGIANS WOLLONGONG

Through out the duration of the UCI event there will be daily road closures throughout the Wollongong CBD. Unfortunately to the North of Collegians Wollongong, Throsby Road will be closed with no access to Charlotte St or the club from the North.

MEMBER & GUEST IN THE NORTH

All members & guests are recommended to travel south along the freeway to either Figtree Exit or Masters Road to make your way back towards Collegians Wollongong.

MEMBER & GUEST IN THE SOUTH

We recommend that All Members & Guests travelling from Wollongong Southern Suburbs travel along Five Islands Road to Springhill Road or alternatively can take the Unanderra (Five Islands Road) or Figtree (Princes Hwy) exit from the freeway and travel along the Princes Hwy towards Collegians Wollongong.

Further details on accessing & exiting Collegians during the Road Closure times are outlined below.

ADDITIONAL ROAD CLOSURES WEEKEND SAT 24TH & SUN 25TH SEPTEMBER

  • SATURDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER 11.30am – 3.30pm
  • SATURDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER 9.45am – 12.45pm

For those Members, Guests & Staff travelling to Collegians Figtree, Wollongong or Port Kembla on Saturday 24th or Sunday 25th September please be aware of the additional Road Closures affecting access to our venues on these dates.

Staff, Members & Guests will need to take the Unanderra, or Figtree exit and make their way back along the Princes Hwy to the relevant venue during this period of time.

Throsby Road will be closed during specific race times from Saturday 17th September – Sunday 25th September.

ENTERING COLLEGIANS

During the Road Closure times listed above Collegians Wollongong will only be accessible from the South.

Members & Guests will only be able to access Collegians through the Smith Street Carpark travelling East on Smith Street.

LEAVING COLLEGIANS VENUES

Collegians guests during the Road Closure times will be able to turn right from Charlotte Street onto Flinders Road to make their way back up Flinders to Keira & home.
